Our Story

Founded in 2019, the Sith Sahana Foundation began as a small unit dedicated to supporting children with special needs. Initially operating from a rented house, we quickly grew with the generous support of community leaders.

On 2022-01-21, the Foundation was officially registered as a voluntary social service organization under the Voluntary Social Service Organizations (Registration and Supervision) Act No. 31 of 1980, as amended by Act No. 8 of 1998, with registration number GAM/MINU/2/1/379/2022. Thanks to the continued support of the Minuwangoda community, we relocated to the Minuwangoda Rajamaha Viharaya, where we continue our mission to improve the lives of children with special needs.

For four years, the special unit at Rajamaha Viharaya flourished, providing invaluable support. However, with ongoing construction at the temple, we relocated on January 30, 2023, to a new residence in the Minuwangoda area. This significant move was blessed by Honorable Ruwan Ranatunga and his wife, allowing us to continue our mission in a welcoming environment.

Today, we began our activities at the new location, inspired by the advice of Ven. Seelarathana Thero, the chief monk of Minuwangoda Rajamaha Viharaya, and with the blessings of all the honored guests present.

Our institution, which began with just 11 students, has grown to train 49 children today, supported by a dedicated team. Initially run by the Principal and two volunteer teachers in 2019, our teaching staff now includes six female teachers and one male teacher serving permanently, with additional visiting teachers enhancing our programs. With a strong commitment to the well-being and development of every child, we are thrilled to announce the upcoming completion of a two-story building with residential facilities, set to open by the end of 2025. This new facility will enable us to expand our services and continue making a positive impact in the community.
